Samper, 20, the New Ste G?

Steven Gerrard will leave Anfield for LA Galaxy when his contract expires at the end of the season, and Samper could potentially be heading to Anfield as his replacement.

Samper has made four senior appearances under Luis Enrique this season, but reports in Spain claim that he is looking for a change of environment after becoming disillusioned at the Nou Camp.

Samper joined FC Barcelona’s youth setup in 2001, aged 6, after a successful trial. On 9 May 2013, he signed a four-year professional deal with Barça.

Full name Sergi Samper Montaña
Date of birth 20 January 1995 (age 20)
Place of birth Barcelona, Spain
Height 1.81 m (5 ft 11 in)
Playing position Defensive midfielder

On 10 June 2013, Samper was promoted to FC Barcelona B. On 17 August, he made his professional debut, in a 1–2 away defeat against CD Mirandés.[He appeared in 40 matches during the campaign, with his side finishing third.

On 17 September 2014 Samper made his first-team debut, starting in a 1–0 home success against APOEL FC, for the season’s UEFA Champions League.

The lack of first-team opportunities at Camp Nou could well lead Samper to consider his future at the club, and a possible move to Anfield, therefore, could well be a consideration.
