The Reds Keeper rises to the occasion

Mignolet’ had his busiest 180 minutes but he was superb when called upon

Within two minutes of the re-start though, Rovers forced two fine saves out of the Reds’ keeper, and he made one more save before Liverpool took the lead, plus one from his opposite number in injury time too. .

Sterling’s Dribbling dream

Raheem Sterling completed  seven dribbles just as many as the whole Blackburn team and not only that but three of them were in Rovers’ penalty area.

He also had three shots, and created a chance for Daniel Sturridge. SAS has been Liverpool’s most frequent chance-creating combination this season, and the duo delivered another opportunity for the Reds in this match.

The three Amigos…

Liverpool used three centre-backs over the course of this match, not one of them made a tackle. They did block four shots, with each player making one inside the Liverpool penalty box, plus Kolo Toure and Dejan Lovren each blocked a Blackburn cross too.

Given the fact that Toure & Lovren made five headed clearances (and seventeen clearances between them in total) and the Reds’ defence can be pleased with it’s efforts.

Tactic or not to Tactic that is the question…

After playing in a 3-4-3 formation for most of the season, Liverpool began this match with a 4-3-3 line up.

We have started seven matches this way in the league and Europe this season, and worryingly only won one (with one draw and five defeats).

We played well in this match with the 4-3-3 formation though, and with Mamadou Sakho having limped off and Martin Skrtel still suspended, we may see it again against Newcastle on Monday night.
