Alberto Moreno

Alberto Moreno

Born: July 5, 1992 (age 22), Seville, Spain
Height: 5′ 7″ (1.71 m)
Weight: 143 lbs (65 kg)
Current teams: Liverpool F.C. (#18 / Defender), Spain national football team (Defender)

Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa spoke to the young defender before he made his mind up…

“They all told me I can grow a lot here as a footballer as this is a massive club. I hope to give my best and do all I can to help.”

In Moreno, the Reds have gone large in terms of expenditure, for young player who has already made his presence known to the point he is on the verge of the Spanish national team, winning three caps so far, and has won the Europa League.

The youngster displays many great attributes vital in the modern attacking defender—and he still has a much higher ceiling for improvement under the guidance of Rogers.

Moreno has great pace and athleticism, however he jumps into tackles a little too rashly at present which could be problematic when playing in the Premier league with all the red card waving referees.

He is a committed defender, though perhaps jumps into tackles a little too rashly at present, and those who point to him being out of position at times are merely acknowledging his former team were happy to see him attack at will.

In addition, he does like to get forward which exposes his position at times, but with a cool and calm and collective in possession.

This is a long term buy for the Reds, but one that will have a positive impact for the left-back position which will improve the team immeasurably and immediately.

Stats relate to Moreno’s Liverpool play time up to the 17th of March 2015.
